in the following decade the political landscape in brazil began to shift, resulting in the overthrow of the government in 1945 and the beginning of the so called 'second brazilian republic' forcing president vargas to step down - under the new regime anti-gambling laws were imposed and the casino was forced to shut its operation down in 1946.

the glamorous building remained empty for a number of years, until it was occupied by the tv tupi network in the 1950s, to house their administration and production studios. at the time tv tupi was the first tv network in south america and only the fourth world wide - the production utilized the many stages and entertainment areas inside the amusement section of the casino for their purposes, until the network it too, ceased operation in 1980. arrow-back      arrow-forward
