at a glance

in rio's central district, the catedral presbiteriana is one of the only examples of neo-gothic architecture to be found in the city - the building came into being with the arrival of the Presbyterian faith to brazil, by national reverend ashbel green simonton. the inspiration for the neo-gothic style came after studying pictures from various churches in europe and in the united states - the cathedral of saint-pierre in geneva, switzerland was the most inspirational.

its main attractions are its towers, the stained glass windows and its interior decoration, there are interesting bronze life-size reproductions of religious activities in the front of the cathedral - the nigh-time illumination of this building makes it a worth-while stop for anyone driving in the area. arrow-back      arrow-forward
