at a glance

the palace contains the museum's exhibits while the other section of the building is the escola do olhar, an environment specifically geared toward producing (and inducing) artistic experiences, with a main focus on helping and inspiring public school teachers.   

it was inaugurated in march of 2013 with the support of municipal and state governments along with prominent companies such as globo and vale. mar is open from 10 am to 5 pm tuesday through sunday; on tuesdays admission is free.

museu historico nacional - mhn (national museum history) is located adjacent to the santos dumont airport, the museu histórico nacional was founded in 1922 in the fort santiago complex, which has roots in the very earliest days of rio de janeiro. after an afternoon of perusing the impressive exhibits and collections and admiring the colonial architecture, one can enjoy a nice lunch in the adjoined viceroy café, all without leaving the museum. arrow-back      arrow-forward
