the museum today is divided into 23 rooms consisting of 5,633 pieces including furniture, tapestries, porcelain, armor and other relics. the museum's goal is to preserve the historical and artistic heritage linked to the diplomatic history of brazil.

among other museums located in this neighborhood are the museu da justica do estado do rio de janeiro (the rio de janeiro state justice museum), museu historico do cbmerj, museu do negro (museum of the black), the naval museum, the museum of energy and the cartography museum, with more emerging on an ongoing basis.
