at a glance

beyond its natural beauty the island also offers several sportive and cultural hotspots. there are four active sports clubs and two important cultural organizations, the popular library joaquim manuel de macedo and the academy of arts, sciences and letters of paquetá island. all of these points of interest make the local population of just a few thousands fluctuate seasonally, depending on the touristic period.

paquetá is perhaps the part of the city that is home to the most legends in rio, all rich and endearing and directly related to many parts of the region - a precious cultural asset cherished by most cariocas.

important and purely carioca cultural references about paquetá include the book 'a moreninha' by joaquim manoel de macedo, and the song 'luar de paquetá' (moonlight of paquetá)  by freire júnior - respectively talking about a love story on the island and moonlight in paquetá.   arrow-back      arrow-forward
