at a glance

suffering from a degradation caused by the development of other parts of town and the resulting shift in commercial importance, the neighborhood is now going through a  significant revitalization effort - including restoration work for  historical buildings, and the creation of new ones to serve as housing and to attract big companies.

in the eastern edge of the neighborhood there is the headquarter of light, rio's main electrical company. north of the estácio de sá street there's the military police's central hospital and the subway station, which is surrounded by a green park not far from the centenary church Igreja Do Divino Espírito Santo do Estácio.

estácio  is limited to the west by the avenida paulo de frontin and the engenheiro freyssinet viaduct, to the north by the cidade nova, to the east by the catumbi neighborhood and to the south by the morro do são carlos, a favela.  arrow-back      arrow-forward
