in 2012, after rio de janeiro won the bid for the 2016 summer olympics and paralympics, the sambódromo was renovated. outside of carnival season, this special stadium is used as a venue for large concerts, and has hosted major artists such as eric clapton, coldplay, whitney houston, robbie williams, black eyed peas, pearl jam, britney spears, black sabbath, aerosmith, and justin bieber.
