at a glance

during the end of the 1930s and the 1940s the whole region was subject to embankment project, in order to allow the construction of the urbanization. from that point on the area developed further although without significantly changing its initial nature.

it remains a relatively tranquil area, especially when compared with other areas of copacabana. unlike the great neighborhoods, or even the remaining of copacabana, it has few small shops spread around and each street has a lush covering of trees. the core of the sub-neighborhood is the edmundo bitencourt praça, which has a characteristic and well-known fountain.

around the praça are several  typical, local buildings, including the jucati hotel.  the sub-neighborhood presents a few more hotels and also a couple bakeries. the copacabana city shopping is located in the southeastern edge of peixoto, where the local stores are concentrated. right beside it is the charity of the holy cross of the copacabana parish. arrow-back      arrow-forward
