at a glance

the peixoto sub-neighborhood is wedged between the hills of cabritos in the west and são joão to the east, is one of the most iconic elements of the renowned copacabana neighborhood.

its origin goes back to the end of the 19th century, when the portuguese entrepreneur paulo felisberto peixoto da fonseca bought several lands in the region, eventually managing to create his own ranch. because he had no heirs, he would eventually donate his lands to several social charity institutions in 1938.

the donation was not made without demands - fonseca wanted the local buildings to not be higher than three floors. later this limit would be changed to four floors due to governmental decree, but the location still presents buildings smaller than those found near the beach. arrow-back      arrow-forward
