in close proximity lies the beautiful parque lage, which features a number of serene hideaways, such as the old wash house, gazebos and a small aquarium - it is centred around an old mansion, which now houses a bistro and an open educational centre offering art courses, lectures, exhibitions and events.

another one of the grand scale planned green areas in zona sul is the parque e aterro do flamengo, which has much to offer visitors despite the natural beauty it is home to numerous sports fileds, bike paths, pic nic areas and the close proximity to the flamengo beach make it a popular recreational destination. 

less well know, but equally as beautiful, if not somewhat more restful is the lovely parque estudal da chacrinha (state park of chacrinha) in copacabana, which is like a hidden forest oasis inside the metropole - these are but a few examples of the magnificent natural beauty that has been preserved by the city, despite the massive urbanization that has occured around it. visitors can explore dozens of wonderful little abodes hiding in every neighborhood.
