at a glance
to the south there's the castelo neighborhood, and then cinelândia, officially the floriano praça, a historical center for cinemas and theaters in rio de janeiro. it is surrounded by the municipal theater, the national library, the oden cinema and the city hall. westward there's lapa, famous for the arches of the old aqueduct, and to the north of it is easy to find the iconic metropolitan cathedral of são sebastião. just a little further there's the famous santana field in the praça's republic, one of the most iconic spaces in rio de janeiro. there's yet much more to see and discover in this dense historical region, including providência - the very first favela of rio located between the neighborhoods of santo cristo and gamboa.
