the one, very important thing, that will not be available on the beach is champagne. traditionally, thousands of cariocas spray champagne into the air at the end of the countdown to accompany the beginning of the fireworks - this is a particularly charming custom, and much fun to join into. very inexpensive champagne can easily be found on the many supermarkets in the area, normally open until mid-afternoon on december 31st. |
