the fireworks are always accompanied by live music, often mixed by a famous brazilian or international dj. 11 specially made barges, each positioned 300 meters from the copacabana shoreline, are rigged by a team of professional pyro-technicians days before the new year celebrations kick off so that everything is in order for the main event. the brazilian government invests millions into this occasion each year, with more than 20 million reals being pumped into the display for recent réveillon shows. while this may sound like a lot of money, considering the show lasts over 16 minutes, uses more than 25 tons of fireworks propelled from more than 2,250 pumps on each raft, and it is attended by over 2 million people, including 700,000 tourists, it sure is money well spent. | ||||
