at a glance | In the past 20 years, community tours increased in number, partly because of the UPPs - it is a very sensitive type of tour because it takes people very close to or even inside the comfort zone of people that may not be in the same economic condition as the majority of the visitors. when considering this type of tourism, visitors must be fully aware of the proper attitude and behavior so that any such visit can result in a positive experience for both the visitor and the residents of the communities. Importantly, there are a number of safety precautions that must be followed before any favela tour ranging from wearing proper shoes and a hat, to bringing insect repellent and water - we provide a complete set of guidelines and suggestions for both safety and proper manners in our favela chapter on this link. |
