literary events enrich the calendar of the city throughout the year - from major celebrations, to the many book-launching events that are normally hosted in rio's most important bookstores and cultural centers.

on september 10th, rio celebrates press day in honor of johann gutenberg, the inventor of the printing press - near this date,  the city also hosts the rio de janeiro's international biennial of books, the bienal do livro.

bienal do livro, one of the largest literary events in brazil, is a large gathering offering readers the opportunity to get closer to their favorite authors, and discover many others - for nearly twenty years, the installments of this once-every-two-years publishing fair is held at the riocentro convention center, featuring illustrious appearances that have included mary gabriel, cheryl strayed, emily giffin, and many more.
