at a glance

the origin can be traced to a bar in ipanema, in 1968, where a group of local artists would gather at the plaza looking for a way to procure some beer - amongst the artists was hugo bidet, a man who began to would stan with cards and paintings on the streets outside, in an attempt to sell them.

with his relative success, he was joined the following week by some of his artist friends, and so the fair was born, with bidet considered the founder - as the weeks rolled on more and more artists, artisans and hippies would join the bazaar, until it grew into the remarkable attraction that has evolved today.

originally a bit of a free-for-all, the fair is now a well-oiled machine, with organized stalls hemming the streets and the park in the center of the square, and, as a hub renowned for its creativity, second-hand goods are not on display, with the vendors preferring to sell their own art and craft inventions, but usually at modest prices, considering the quality of the goods.  arrow-back      arrow-forward
