at a glance

blocos are descendants of entrudos, which was a carnival battle between groups using projectiles such as eggs, lupine flowers, limes, and other objects filled with perfumes or, at times, substances of foul smell.

these entrudos, originally known to be a portuguese tradition, were battlegrounds where adversaries were treated as equals, though within entrudos, moods may not have always been as jovial as it is today.

satire and humor acted as prime weapons against the powers of the times - under the disguise of an unbridled party, this political demonstration shined light on a society that people claimed not to be always just.  arrow-back      arrow-forward
