to understand eco trekking, one must first understand geocaching - an outdoor recreational activity in which people use handheld global positioning systems to play high tech versions of hide and seek, geocaching is practiced globally.

in this activity a participant will place a small waterproof container  somewhere in the world, and post its gps coordinates online - inside the container will be a log book and treasure. these treasures rarely hold much value, and are typically toys or small souvenirs - to locate these containers geocachers will use personal gps devices and hunt for their sought after prizes.
