in the 1500s more noblemen were killed during fencing duels than during war - historical fencing is considered a european martial art. when the portuguese first  made contact with the indigenous communities of brasil they brought the traditions of fencing - it is documented that the sport has been in the country since the 1500s,  yet it became well known in the 1800s.

fencing has three types of competition including foil, sabre, and épeé - foil and épeé have similar weapons but épeé's weapons are usually heavier.
