at a glance

designed by the architect caio rubens romero lyra, frescobol's wooden rackets were created to avoid breaking strings and sea salt degradation - he noticed traditional tennis rackets had the tendency to break easily and theorized using a solid material could vastly improve durability. transitioning into caio's new rackets became popular with time and several games were created around them.

frescobol will always remain a brazilian invention from the 20th century but similar games had existed long before that.

a goya painting, from the 18th century, shows people playing a racket and ball sport similar to frescobol - it represents one of these interesting cases in which a game has been re-invented several times during the course of history. arrow-back   arrow-forward
