target shooting was included in the first modern olympic games which took place in athens, greece in 1896 - shooting has been in almost every modern olympic games since that time.

there are several shooting events now held in the olympics - some of these are straight forward, and include air pistol, air rifle, trap, double trap, skeet, rapid fire pistol, rifle prone, and rifle three positions. other events include the winter olympics biathlon, and the summer olympics modern pentathlon.
