skimboarding is a sport very similar to surfing, where instead of surfing waves in the ocean, the athlete skims along the thin layer of water left on the sand after a wave. the skimboard is a small, light board which allows the skimboarder to run with the board before tossing it on the sand and jumping on top.

skimboarding injuries are more common than surfing injuries, namely due to the nature of wipeouts landing on hard packed sand verus deep water. skimboarding can be back traced to laguna beach, california during the 1920's.
