this town is the largest in this part of the baixadas litorâneas, also known as region of the lakes, and serves as a vacation spot mainly for brazilian families although the reputation of the city is growing internationally and many foreign visitors are starting to take prolonged vacations here.

the town has an airport, so cabo frio also serves as a gateway to rest of the region, as a result, the offering in terms of dining and lodging has grown in quantity and sophistication - public trasportation is limited, and beaches are spread along a significant part of the coast, and not always next to the best restaurants and nightlife.

as a car is often needed to get around, making this location more geared towards couples, families, and friends rather than backpackers - still, the town has a great infrastructure to accommodate all of the national tourism it receives and is rife with history from the 1600's on.
