at a glance
the cost of taking a taxi in rio is fairly reasonable, and the prices will of course depend on what time of the night or day it is, but legally speaking there are two rates - the more expensive fare or 'bandeira dois' (english translation is flag two) as its known, starts at 9pm and stops at 6am - it is common for this higher rate to be used the whole month of december.

passengers should double check that the meter is firstly on and secondly that it has been reset properly, unless driving in a taxi with a pre-agreed fee, the meter should always be on, if not the driver can be asked to turn it on.

checking with the driver to see beforehand if they are aware of the location of one's destination is advised - if they seem unaware of the place, it is best to get another taxi. arrow-back      arrow-forward
