at a glance
rio's subway, or metrô, system is fast, clean, safe, and easy to use - a wonderfully convenient option in terms of time and money, as it gets to some of the most important landmarks at a fraction of the cost of a taxi, and faster than any bus line.

in this section, we also included maps, prices, schedules, and main interest points that can be accessed via metrô - there are two main lines, called metrô rio 1 and 2, along with a number of special blue buses called 'metrô na superfície' (subway on the surface) that leave from certain stations to connect other locations in the city where the matro may not reach.

the subway operates monday through friday between 5 am and midnight, and on week-ends and holidays between 7 am and 11 pm, and during carnival week, the metrô runs all night - trains in all directions run very frequently and there is no need to rush within the station to catch a train.   arrow-back      arrow-forward
