at a glance
in the years that followed, there has been a large number of expansions, with two extra stations added to the system just one year after its inauguration, and then the carioca station opened in 1981, becoming the busiest station on the network, receiving over 80,000 passengers per day

since then, numerous other stations and lines have been added to the metrô, making it the powerhouse of public transport, which can be found today - the future looks bright, but expensive, for the metrô, which has plans to expand to up to six lines, spanning across many more areas of the city.

one of the expansion projects even proposes to run from rio city center, under the guanabara bay, all the way to neighboring city, niterói, which would alleviate some of the pressure from an over subscribed part of town.  arrow-back      arrow-forward
