founded in 1932, the grande synagogue - grande templo istraelita do rio de janeiro was the first building in rio de janeiro purposely designed to be a jewish synagogue. a site of national historical and artistic importance, the temple celebrates the important jewish religious ceremonies such as rosh hashanah and yom kippur and welcomes both jewish and non-jewish visitors.
