the tree was decorated in an artisitc arrangement of wreaths and rope lights displaying a variety of different themes including air - represented by the colors of sunset and birds, forests - represented by butterflies, macaws and monkeys, water - represented by figures of dolphins, seahorses and fish, and humanity - represented by people linking hands.

on opening night, usually the 1st of december, the tree is illuminated to a dazzling display of fireworks and musical performances at nearby parque de cantagalo (cantagalo park). in the past christmas corals by the orquestra sinfônica de barra mansa (barra mansa symphony orchestra)and coral da fundação bradesco (bradesco foundation choir), as well as concert adaptations of 'the wizard of oz', ballet performances of tchaikovsky's 'the nutcracker' have been included. the tree is lit until the feast of the epiphany at the beginning of january and does move to other locations around the lagoon.
