rio de janeiro's international film festival - festival do rio, takes place annually between september and october. with over 15 editions of the event, the festival showcases more than 400 film screenings from around 60 countries, spread across 30 different venues in the city.

the festival, which was the result of two previous film festivals merging (rio cine festival and mostra banco nacional de cinema), has gained a reputation for bringing the best and most coveted cinema to rio de janeiro.
