rio+20, more formally known as the united nations conference on sustainable development (uncsd), was a ten-day summit aimed at clarifying the environmental and economic goals of the international community. rio de janeiro hosted the event from 13 - 22 june 2012, having last held the earth summit in 1992.

rio+20 was organized by the united nations department of economic and social affairs - with 192 un member states in attendance, represented by 57 heads of state, 31 heads of government, ngos and various other groups.
