botafogo bay is the small round beach peppered with small white boats that everyone has seen in so many pictures of rio de janeiro depicting the sugar loaf. while copacabana and ipanema are rio's most famous beaches, botafogo beach is perhaps the most photographed beach of all.

this beach sits at the base of the sugar loaf, and given that millions of people visit the statue of the christ and the sugar loaf each year, and since these two are icons are facing each other, botafogo beach appears in almost all pictures taken from both landmarks.
