another theory says that the rocks were named after a bird found in the portuguese atlantic territories (azores and madeira), but as such creatures don't exist in south america the idea remains an oddity. 

even so, the cagarras and the waters around them remain an important refuge to several types of wildlife, one of reasons why they're so appreciated for expeditions and boat trips.
