this rail route is a piece of history in itself, with roots dating back way before the building of the statue. the road that leads to the statue, was originally built in 1824, whilst the railroad was completed 60 years later, in 1884, making it the oldest tourist excursion in the country.

it travels an impressive 3,824 meters along to track to the summit of the mountain, leaving as minimal a footprint as possible, as it was converted to electricity at the beginning of the twentieth century - the first of its kind in brazil.
