after collaborating with italian-born artist carlos oswald, the final design was drawn up, with the large cross, replaced by the outstretched arms of christ, which signify the redemption of mankind at the crucifixion.

the polish-born french sculptor  paul landowski also played a vital role in the realization of the project, as he was responsible for the face and the arms of the statue, which for some are the most alluring aspects of its design.

the iconic train of corcovado was used extensively throughout the construction, to transport many of the materials and stone tiles up the corcovado mountain, to the site of the monument.
