after benjiamin's death, his family remained living in the mansion for a long time. in 1982 the building was turned into a museum in honor of the influential brazilian politician. with the goal to offer its visitors a look into benjamin constant's daily life.

the museu do bonde displays 300 pieces that illustrates the history of rio's tramways since 1865, when the trolleys were still being pulled by donkeys.
