their demands were met by local authorities in 1990 when the area was officially turned into a city park. the project was landscaped by the local fundação parques e jardins (parks and gardens foundation) and is part of the parks and gardens foundation's green corridor project, designed to integrate native plants into the area. commonly known as bosque da freguesia, it covers 82 acres and is easily by public transportation.

besides beautifully landscaped green spaces, the park has several walking and hiking trails and soccer fields. it also offers tai chi and capoeira classes. in 1995, a beautiful sculpture made in white carrara marble, called alegoria das artes, was erected in the park. visitors are welcome daily from 8 am to 5 pm and during summer months until 6 pm.
