the darke de mattos park is located on ilha paquetá (paquetá island), which is the major island of the paquetá archipelago and is located 15 kilometers away from the historical center of rio de janeiro, inside the guanabara bay.

paquetá island is known for being a quaint and almost rural touristic center within the city's metropolitan area, it attracts many visitors every year and the darke de mattos park is among its several touristic curiosities. 

covering more than 66.000 square meters, the park houses many grand ancient trees, historical artifacts and remains  from past economic activities, and some newer additions like the very coveted belvedere, offering stunning views of the island and surrounding bay.
