the parque da freguesia (freguesia park) is located in zona oeste (west zone) of rio de janeiro, in the famous baixada de jacarepaguá neighborhood, between macico da tijuca and the serra de pedra branca. the barra da tijuca neighborhood separates the suburb of the baixada from the ocean.

the land on which the park is located once housed the catramby family cattle ranch and summer home. the ranch's main house, built in 1798, was demolished in 1988. after the demolition, the land was used as an equestrian school.
