landscape artist fernando chacel designed the park in an area that was reclaimed from the surrounding mangrove forest, which belongs to the adjacent parque natural municipal bosque da barra.

parque trevo das palmeiras is the site of a new and exciting project as it is the new site of the 'city of art' (former cidade da música) which occupies a triangular shaped 'island' area in barra. this large new cultural facility was designed by christian de portzamparc.
