a relatively new endeavor, the idea to launch this park as an area of environmental protection was proposed by environmentalists in 2006 - however, it wasn't until april 18, 2011, that the park was officially sanctioned by state decree no. 42,929.

the park was established with three main aims - preserving the atlantic forestand associated ecosystems of the coastal plains region, enabling opportunities for visitation, education and scientific research, and developing tourism and sustainable economic activities inside, and in the surrounding area of the park.

within these objectives, the establishment of the park hopes to recover the degraded areas of the region, as well as maintain the rare and vulnerable native populations of flora and fauna.
