the parque do desengano offers high green landscapes that are among the best conserved in the state, in comparison to the other national parks at itatiaia, frade, morro do cuca, and antas.

bird-watching is a popular activity here, with over 410 species to see - proof of the park's true biodiversity. many of these are near extinct or endangered, and include the jacutinga, macuco, gaviao-pomba, and gaviao-pato, in addition to jacu, inhambu, gaviao-pega-macaco, papagaio-chaua (a parrot species) and araponga. all of these are bird species that are only to be found in protected areas.
