considered to have the highest levels of biodiversity in the entire rio de janeiro state, the parque estadual dos três picos breaks ecological boundaries with some of the most alluring environmental wonders on the planet. it makes up part of the enchanting atlantic forest, serving an important ecological purpose as the largest site of full environmental conservation, within the state of rio de janeiro.

the park is located in the mountainous serra do mar region, of rio de janeiro state,  north east of rio de janeiro city. the majority of the park falls within the municipality of cachoeiras de macacu, but also cuts small sections out of the municipalities of nova friburgo, teresópolis, silva jardim and guapimirim.
