the fauna in the region is relatively sparse as a result of flaws in the initial reforestation process. however, there are still various mammals to be seen. these include cachorro do mato, a wolf species, prea-do-mato, a type of rodent, and mico-estrela, a primate species native to rio de janeiro.

the birds most likely to be encountered include beija-flor, or hummingbirds, saira-azul, saira-amarela, juiriti, urubu-cacador, gaviao carijo and tiribas, also an endangered species.
