paraty was situated on the famous caminho do ouro (gold road), which was built by slaves during the seventeenth and nineteenth centuries to transport the precious metal to sea ports for shipment to other parts of the world. paraty therefore became an important trading post for sellers and buyers.

paraty boasts many incredible beaches including praia do sono with its amazingly white sand and crystal clear water, and also a cave called gruta da praia do sono. a tiny fishing community lives there and it is accessible from a trail starting from laranjeiras condominium.
