here one can visit the venerated church of nossa senhora da lapa do mercadores and purchase souvenirs in the surrounding shops and bookstores.

a bit outside of this area, but still well worth the visit, is the municipal theater of rio, located just west of avenida rio branco in praça floriano. an important thing to remember here is the dress code - shorts, sandals and sleeveless shirts are prohibited inside the theater except for children under the age of ten.
