copacabana is rio de janeiro's most internationally famous neighborhood, due to its beach by the same name, that has been welcoming international guests for over 100 years. for a first-time visitor, this is perhaps the very first neighborhood of rio to explore, as a short walk along the beach can give a quick peak into some great aspects of life in rio: nature, sports, and people.

established in 1892, following the construction of the tunnel connecting it to the rest of the city, copacabana is located in the south zone of rio de janeiro, bordered on all sides by other famous carioca neighborhoods, including leme to the east, ipanema to the west and botafogo to the north.
