copacabana has around 150,000 residents within its limits, making it one of the most densely populated regions in the world - the neighborhood is abutted to the south by the world-renowned beach of the same name, also known as princesinha do mar, which means 'princess of the sea.'      

this is the beach that gets televised world-wide every year on new year's eve, when two million people gather, dressed in white, to watch the stunning fireworks.
