santa teresa is neighborhood close to guanabara bay, bordered by lapa and centro to the north, laranjeiras to the east, botafogo to the south and tijuca national forest to the west.

home to about 40,000 people, it is known for the bohemian atmosphere generated by its architecture, modes of transportation and artistic population. 

santa teresa is located on top of a hill known by some as morro de rio de janeiro (rio de janeiro hill), and it is one of the rare districts in rio located on a hill, that is not considered a favela.
