flamengo, it is one of the oldest and most traditional carioca neighborhoods, and flamengo beach is the largest bayside beach in rio de janeiro. given the magnificent views of guanabara bay and sugar loaf offered here, many come to flamengo to sunbathe and admire their surroundings, to jog, or to play some beach volleyball.

the calm bay waters are not as clean as the waters of other ocean-facing beaches in rio, however they are safer for children, thus attracting many local families to the area.
