at a glance
its roots lie in the favelas of the city, when in the 1980s local musicians started blending american funk with dance music, and hosted huge street parties to popularize their sounds. 

these parties became known as baile funks, or funk balls, and became very popular amongst the youth of the city during the 1990s, who saw them as opportunities to get away from the mainstream clubs, which were so common in other parts of the city.   arrow-back      arrow-forward
